Three Classic Game Boy Mario Games Released on Switch

Updated: Mar 14

Pixel Bit Mario Game Boy Colour Games to Switch Online

In honor of MAR10 Day, which is celebrated on March 10th of each year (good marketing guys), Nintendo is adding three new classic Mario titles to the Nintendo Switch Online’s Game Boy and Game Boy Colour library. The new titles will be available to play today - March 12th, 2024.

The three new Mario titles that will be added are Dr. Mario (GB), Mario Tennis (GBC), and Mario Golf (GBC). Dr. Mario is a puzzle game where players must eliminate viruses by lining up capsules of the same colour, think Tetris but more fun. Mario Tennis and Mario Golf are sports games that allow players to compete in an addictively simple pixel game play. The latter versions of these games that have been released for GameCube, Wii and Switch are inspired by these Game Boy Classics. So they're important to play to ensure you know your Mario history.

While some gamers are excited about the addition of these classic Mario titles, others are wondering where all the other classics are? Super Mario Land 1 is still not on the horizon to be included in an update and many Mario super fans really want it! Super Mario Land 1 was one of the first games released for the Game Boy and is considered to be a classic. Nintendo has not yet commented on why Super Mario Land 1 is not being added to the Switch Online library but there's plenty of speculation on X and Reddit.

Overall, the addition of these three new Mario titles is a welcome update for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. It gives gamers a chance to relive some of their favourite childhood memories or experience these classic games for the first time.
